The Great Student Fees and Debt Round-Up. Internationally, higher education funding is being slashed and students are bearing the burden. Liz and Rachel ask what’s the context for this trend and what’s the effect on the global economy? Or to think about it another way, if the Great Financial Crisis was a person (shaking the world with its first crying breaths circa 2008) it would already be talking – and if you asked it about education it would probably say ‘cuts’, ‘higher fees’ and ‘less places’.

HECS debt – the first 5,000 year. James rounds up responses to the new Services and Amenities fee, and consequences for student debt. Followed by a reading of the introduction to David Graeber’s essay on the history of debt.
